Collection mainly concerns Walter Doniger's career as a motion picture and television director, writer, and producer from the late 1940s to the late 1980s. It consists mainly of manuscripts and production files concering Doniger's work in motion pictures and television. It also contains Doniger's personal and professional files concerning his movie and television career. The collection also holds legal files, photographs, miscellaneous materials (consisting of clippings, printed materials, and set plans), and restricted manuscripts and production files (including those concerning the Vietnam War and Doniger's project "The Last Days of Saigon"). It also holds sealed materials, which consist of manuscript files, correspondence, legal files, and audio visual materials. There are several motion picture reels and one audio recording in this collection as well.

Walter Doniger was a prominent American television and motion picture director, writer, and producer. Doniger was born in New York City on July 1, 1917. He graduated from Duke University in 1938 and from Harvard University's Graduate School of Business in 1940. Doniger started writing screenplays in the 1930s and earned his first screen writing credit in "Mob Town" (1941).
